History

Hostelling International - Canada - Pacific Mountain Region was formed in 2004, but our deep rooted values and traditions go way back to 1933.  Two sisters set out that summer to Bragg Creek, Alberta, with one tent and a huge dream and established the first hostel.  What followed was a decades strong organization of travellers, adventurers, and explorers who just want to see the world.  The original charge for an overnight stay was 25 cents; although we've had to raise the prices a bit since then, the same determination still drives us today.

Currently, we have over 250 employees at 30 locations throughout British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon - some of whom have been with us more than twenty-five years!

We are a not-for-profit member based organization and our mission is simple - we help make travel affordable and practical for everyone, especially young people.  As a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation, we work to make it possible for anyone and everyone to experience new people, places, and cultures.

Our employees play an integral role in making our hostels much more than just a place to stay for our guests.  In return, we provide our employees with much more than just a pay cheque.
